SURF SMARTER EXPERT GUIDANCE, TAILORED TO YOU
FREE SURF COACHING
Free surf coaching from Ten Toes, designed to help surfers understand why they surf the way they do and what to change when progression starts to stall.
Our Surf Stance series is useful for surfers at almost every level, but especially for anyone who feels like their surfing has plateaued or become repetitive.
The series breaks down the different stances surfers use to do different things on a wave, from trimming and generating speed to carving, turning and changing direction.
The introduction also looks at one of the biggest problems we see in surf instruction: many surf schools teach a stance that works perfectly well if the goal is simply to stand up and ride straight, but can become a limitation once you want to progress beyond that.
Using real video analysis, we explain why that happens and show how different stances give you access to different movements.
This series is also a good introduction to the way we coach at Ten Toes. We use video, technical analysis and clear explanations to help surfers understand not just what to change, but why.
Surf stance is just one of many topics we coach in this level of detail. We apply the same approach to take-offs, positioning, wave selection, speed control, turning, manoeuvres and the other technical decisions that shape how you surf.

FREE VIDEO ANALYSIS EXAMPLES
These are real examples of the kind of technical feedback we use in Ten Toes Theory Sessions.
Each example focuses on a different stage of progression and shows how we use video to break down what is happening, why it is happening and what the surfer should work on next.
Angled Take-Offs
An Improver / Intermediate example looking at how the take-off sets up the rest of the ride, and how changing the angle can help a surfer get onto the face earlier and travel down the line with more control.
Setting Up Noserides
An Intermediate / Advanced longboard example looking at how wave choice, positioning, speed and the setup before stepping forward all affect whether a noseride is actually available.
Shortboard Cutbacks
An Intermediate / Advanced example looking at when to cut back, where to redirect, how to use the power source of the wave and how to reconnect the turn with the next section.
These are only a few examples of the topics we cover. The goal of a Theory Session is not simply to point out mistakes, but to give you a clearer understanding of your surfing and a practical idea of what to work on next.
